The boss of Imperial Tabacco, Gareth Davies, is going to travel to Cuba after the announcement yesterday that his company made an offer to aquire Altadis. The reason for the trip is to secure Cuban government support for the deal. Why does he need support from the Cuban government, you may ask? Here's the clincher: The Cuban government can exercise a change of control clause that it has over Corporacion Habaneros in Cuba. Altadis operates the 50/50 joint venture in Cuba.
